Please note this event has been postponed until further notice. We plan to reschedule in the fall or spring and will update the chapter membership once a new date has been determined.

The lecture takes place at The First Congregational United Church of Christ, Second Floor, 945 G Street NW, Washington, DC. Reservations are not required. $10.00 for Latrobe Chapter members, student members (full time) free with ID, $15.00 for non-members.

Professor Daniel Bluestone will explore Mies van der Rohe’s architectural expression and his campus plan for Illinois Institute of Technology in its relationship to “slum” clearance and superblock urbanism on the South Side of Chicago in the 1940s and 1950s.  Expansion of the campus and the complete redevelopment of the neighborhood went hand in hand.

Born in Boston, Daniel Bluestone is a professor of history of art and architecture and directs Boston University's Preservation Studies Program.  His books and essays have won numerous awards.  He has worked on historic preservation and community revitalization projects in China, Iraq, and across the United States.
